Now you are a follower of Jesus, it's important that you start learning more about God. Just as Jesus had 12 disciples, so today Jesus has millions all over the world. A disciple simply means a learner, like an apprentice. Now you are apprenticed to Jesus you can be sure he wants to teach you. Your most important source of learning and discovery is the Bible where we can find truth and revelation to help us grow and guard us against false ideas about who God is.

However, we need to make an important distinction between the Bible which is inspired by God and God himself. Our priority is to know the God of the Bible, the author himself not just verses. It's quite possible to know about God but not know him. Jesus warned the religious folks of his day about this saying:

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life.

These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

(John 5:38-39)

To help us approach the Bible in the right way we should do so looking for what the God of the Bible wants to show us. To help us in this God has given us His Holy Spirit. Jesus said:

"But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth."

So we can ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we read the Bible.

Here are 4 simple questions we can ask as we approach a passage of the Bible:

What do we learn about God?

What do we learn about people?

What does God want to teach me?

How can I be obedient to God / what should I do?

To learn more about some of the basics of Christianity, you may want to join a local Alpha Course. You can find out more about Alpha here.

To help you understand and unpack more of the meaning of each book the Bible, we would like to recommend the online teaching of Roger Forster here.

When you have found a good local church, make it your intention to learn from mature Christians and from the sermons and always ask questions!

Now you are a Christian, it's time to start making the most of the rest of your life. You're no longer living like everyone else around you, you're living for Jesus and his mission.

A great way to start serving Jesus is to start to tell others about him. Why not start by writing down the names of four or five friends or family members and committing to pray for them to come to Jesus then share why you have come to believe in Jesus and tell them what he has done for you. Why not send them a link to this website?

There are lots of ways that God can use us to help others and tell others about Jesus. We are called to shine for God and share the good news of Jesus so everyone can know and have the opportunity to respond.

Do you want to serve Jesus?

You can start by telling God you are willing and asking him to show you ways you can tell others and serve others in Jesus' name.  It starts with what we already have and with those around us.

Finally, tell us! If you have committed or made a recommitment of your life to Jesus, we would love to hear from you so we can pray for you. Please take a moment to fill out the contact form below.
